"I Guess" is the kind of rhythmic art pop that Sufjan did on Age of Adz and St. Vincent did on Strange Mercy, and if you liked those albums, you might find something to dig here too."
--BV, Brooklyn Vegan
"Like an old Noir film, Friend Roulette never gives away the plot, but the distinct pleasure of discovering their dreamy Cabaret texture is enough to keep your ears duly occupied during the journey."
--Mike Levine, Deli Magazine
"Their songs are a mesmerizing landscape in which sounds seem to float. Complex, layered percussion pulls together Julia’s breathy vocals and Matt’s fluid guitar."
--Jessica Bal, Go Fork Yourself
"Grow Younger EP is bursting with imagination; it’s the sort of record where dignified string arrangements bleed into gauche prog-rock synth lines and twee-inflected ballads bloom into psych stompers. So much is going on in these songs that it’s no wonder so many players are involved, but the music never feels too busy or undermines itself. Everyone seems to have bought into the same master plan, and the results are highly pleasant. Enter Friend Roulette’s expansive sonic realm below."
--Chris Deville, Stereogum

Grow Younger

Grow Younger is the follow up to Friend Roulette’s debut LP, I’m Sorry You Hit Your Head.

Produced & Mixed By: Jason Finkel, this album of songs has a much crisper vibe than Friend Roulettes normal pot of melty goodness.  Where I’m sorry You hit Your Head was more of an album about debauched love, Grow Younger is more about wandering through loneliness, fear of Growing Older, and the paranoia one might feel after a late night out.

The brooklyn based band has been together for nearly 4 years.  In 2011 after Matthew Meade got hit by a car he decided to give up his musical path of avante guarde improvisation to dabble in the world of popular song.  Julia Tepper was hanging around a bit and helping with the songs. . . this all snowballed into friend after friend joining the band to form what is now a 6 piece group of musical buddies.

The ensemble is best described as psychedelic, orchestral pop music.  The instrumentation includes bass clarinet, ewi, violin, synthesizer & 2 drummers along with the standard guitar, bass vocals set up.

L magazine has described the band as “Brooklyn’s most whimsical chamber pop ensemble.”

Consequence of Sound has called friend roulette “dreamy& wildly percussive”.

“Their songs are eclectic and musical in the purest sense of the word, the way Van Dyke Parks’s music is real musician’s stuff.” - The Austinist SXSW review
